Drove a lot more tonight, now that I got past the issues setting up my G25 (Some Axis' were backwards and whatnot, little checkboxes not clicked here and there like "use shifter" though I'd set up the buttons... my fault, too many beers not enough paying attention for the latter).

Seems like LFS S3 to me... this is just a tech demo? Good work in my opinion. I don't think I've been that immersed in a sim for a few years actually, and I was surprized. Throwing the Lotus around that tiny track feels just so natural and very LFS-esque as it were in my opinion.

The sound seems decent overall; is it still synthesized? (the engine sound?)

Considering this is open to modding from the get-go I think I'm genuinely excited.

Not so sure on the FFB myself, I tried Tristan's settings for my aging G25 and it feels OK but not all that informative to me. Not going to criticize though since this isn't even a demo.

Great stuff!

Feels pretty darn good actually, I like it. Works perfect in 3D - I'm now having visions of that F40 at the ring with real physics... Seems like an exciting prospect to me! Who knows what mods will exist in 3 years as well. Until this kicks off, RF2 feels 95% as good and at least has a crappy looking 70s ring that's fun as hell. nice to have some decent look and decent driving sims coming

I really want that F40; I wonder if there's turbo modelling?

Well, at least, as of the last number of posts... the thread now matches it's title if nothing else...

Yeah I still come by regularly, mostly out of habit I guess. Still hoping to see something released here one day, but I do wonder if it's ever going to happen. Thinking back to the RSC days, and the release of S1 etc, there used to be so much excitement in the forums it was a special project in it's earlier years to be sure. I think if you think of around 2006 or so, nobody imagined things would be in this state 6 years later

They acknowledged that, I think it's even in the patch notes. Either that or Tim's release post.

What's this a couple of necroposters competing for top necropost?

Oh well, I somehow managed to miss this thread the first time(s) around, so I learned yet another obscure fact about LFS. Never a bad thing.

Well landing in general seems really odd in those videos, visually it's like time accelerates for a fraction of a second, really throws me off. Is that what you're talking about?

Quote from breadfan :Here's a layman's opinion:
You can get the Gallardo kind of power from a 3 litre engine. F1 cars have around 3 litres I think and have even more power if I'm not mistaken.

However...
I wouldn't buy a 3l supercar just because I would look like a joke between other supercar owners.

Ferriari F40...

Twin Turbo V8 and the thing was rather small at 2.9L

With a FWD car you're not going to get away from that entirely. Weight transfer is happening on two axes away from that tire - towards the outside of the corner, and since you're trying to accelerate, you're also transferring weight to the rear... so that tire has everything against it and you can't do much about that.

As has been said, the only real solution is to play with the differential settings but all you can do is find a balance between power understeer and inside wheelspin. the way LFS tires are working right now (well, have been for the last number of years but that's not the point I suppose) is that you're better off with a high locking or locked diff, and messing with the rest of the suspension to make that work since unlike real life it will help to "pull" the car around the corner.

Hope this helps

Occasionally I dream that I'd turbocharged my car... other than that, there's been the odd dream of driving car's I'd love to have, but nothing really amazing that's worth typing lol

I can say the Clio is probably the closest car to reality that i've ever driven in a sim. Just amazed how intuitive it is.

That's because the tire model is the closest to reality that's available right now. Why people seem surprized by this I still don't get, this SIM is shaping up to be great. Patience will actually pay off over there considering the sim is based off of taking advantage of the community, and has a solid foundation already.

Above all, SMS is working on a completely different tire model, curiously based on some of the principles LFS is based on, that was talked to be available in the end of this year (please read: AJ's Thread).

Could you post the contents? I can't get in there. Would like to read.

Just thought I'd say, I tried to imagine what that would be like to drive and I think you would have a winner there. The flow would feel very nice IMO. Would love to try that someday - maybe someone could mod it into RF2 (hint hint)

Quote from cargame.nl :Not going to try RF2 either tbh. Uninteresting.

Your loss if you don't want to try the most advanced tire model in public use so far

lol.... uninteresting indeed, just like the tools at iR who won't fire up LFS

Quote from tristancliffe :Yes, physics bad.

But they are getting better (although the current focus isn't physics, which I find odd, but I guess the other stuff has to be done at some point). So I do see potential, and they admit that it's missing a lot of stuff...

But I do worry that they can adjust individual cars, and individual parameters of said car. A real simulator should, in my opinion, use a universal set of physics (even if each car has different tyres, with different constructions/compounds), so that a flaw in one car is a problem with the car, and a flaw with all cars is a problem with the tyre model. Like LFS and nKP. iRacing, rF and CARS all seem to use the shitty, hacky method of pretending to be a simulator.

I just hope CARS improves that aspect over time........

nKP at Spa (for example, as that's what I'm playing these days) is still the most realistic single-seater home simulation of the circuit of ANY sim so far.

Still haven't tried RF2 have you? Seems dodgy that you may have tried CARS but won't try RF2

Quote from tristancliffe :I don't remember the incident with Jeff itself, but I bet it was during a mess about race, rather than a proper race or a league event.

Just to put this garbage to rest, Tristan that is correct it was during the couple of minutes between races and we were just messing around.

My post was 100% tongue in cheek - I'm sorry if that didn't come across properly to random people who have no idea who you are or how you've contributed to this community for the better part of the past decade.

In any event, Postman Pat has the right idea though - RF2 is leading the entire pack in terms of tire modelling right now. Two years ago, I really would've thought Kaemmer and crew would be a lot farther along than they are both in tires and overall simulation. Hmm, that sounds familiar... Clearly I'm poor at prediction of sim progress

Quote from tristancliffe :I have an phone! I can post on the porcelain throne, the bath, in the workshop, in bed, in the car (not when driving!), the office... Doesn't imply that I have lots of 'free' time to be playing sims!

Thanks. Gonna need it. I'm too slow this year, and need to up my game. Class podiums isn't what I want...

too slow... haven't I seen a number of write-ups about you on Facebook including a recent chamionship?

Edit: also what's this about online sportsmanship? The last (only?) time I managed to get on the track with you in LFS (2005/6... good times) I do believe you very intentionally weaved your lumbering FZ5 left to create some distance, then full lock right with the sole purpose of pasting me into a wall!

Just saying...

Quote from tristancliffe : Still need to try rF2, but not holding my breath on that one.

Not holding your breath; but you should try it so I can see what you think

I'm not really running anything right now (no time) but I hop into the 370Z over there sometimes for a blast.

I've never understood why 5 minutes of coding in a limiter was considered a major investment not worth of doing; considering it'd save hours of Youtube embarassment
